Driven primarily by its petrol engine, its battery-powered electric motor kicks in to provide additional power as required. The specially calibrated 1.6-litre GDI internal combustion engine delivers class-leading thermal efficiency. The maximum torque of the electric motor is available from start-up, resulting in impressive acceleration especially at low speeds.
The IONIQ Hybrid isn't recharged by an external power source. Instead, its high-voltage battery is recharged through regenerative braking - an innovative technology that captures kinetic energy while the vehicle is coasting and when the brakes are applied. Steering wheel-mounted paddles allow you to increase or decrease the amount of regenerative braking you can potentially harvest.
